Eight years after his last appearance at the Olympic Games, Roger Federer will once again be on the hunt for precious metal: As the Swiss announced at a media event in Tokyo, he will be starting in the Japanese capital in summer 2020.
At the US Open a few weeks ago, Federer had not yet decided whether he would start again at the Olympic Games. In 2012 in London, Federer defeated Juan Martin del Potro in an epic three-set match in the semifinals, then had no chance in the final against Andy Murray. A few days earlier, the Swiss Murray had put four sentences in the Wimbledon final.
Four years earlier, Federer and Stan Wawrinka celebrated winning the double gold medal in Beijing. In individual cases, he was inferior to James Blake from the USA. In 2016, the Swiss had to cancel his participation in the games in Rio de Janeiro due to injury.
