Dennis Novak had a real rollercoaster ride in the quarterfinals against Ricardis Berankis at the Challenger tournament in Vilnius. In the first set Novak didn't find his game at all and Berankis clearly won the round 6:1. Here Berankis repeatedly indicated his potential in a few rallies. In 2016, the Lithuanian was 50th in the world rankings. In the meantime, however, it ranks around 200th place in the region.
The longer the game lasted, the more Novak was able to play to his physical advantages. He won the second set 6:3. In the third set, Novak was quickly 4-0 up. Berankis came back to 4:2, but in the end the Austrian, who was fourth, was able to confidently decide the decisive round 6:2.
In the quarter-finals, Novak now meets the Bosnian Damir Dzumhur, who confidently (6: 1, 6: 3) prevailed against the qualifier Egor Gerasimov.
