Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova seem to be slowly finding each other

It's no secret that Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova weren't on good terms with each other during their rivalry on the WTA tour. To put it mildly, the two long-term competitors were not friends. The decisive factor for this must have been the second duel between the two superstars of women's tennis, back then - in the 2004 Wimbledon final - Sharapova completely surprisingly ousted Williams from the throne.

As a result, the rivalry between the two was characterized by one thing above all else: one-sidedness. Out of a total of 22 clashes, a whopping 20 went to the American, who was able to return the favor in a Grand Slam final for the dismantling at the time, in four ways. However, there were no significant improvements in the interpersonal relationship between the two of them during this time.

Williams speaks of a great meeting with Sharapova

But that seems to be changing now, already at the Met Gala the two rivals posed eagerly next to each other and gave the impression that they could really appreciate the reunion with each other. This impression is now also underlined by Williams himself, who looked back on the encounter with Sharapova in an Instagram video.

The 23-time major winner had a great time with the Russian, said: "I had the opportunity to spend some time with her at the Met Gala, and the truth is that she is very funny. We talked , we hit it off and laughed. We also talked about tennis and it was very, very fun, I loved it. " It seems like two of tennis’s great rivals are finding each other.
