The busy youngsters of Canada, Denis Shapovalov and Félix Auger-Aliassime, will be able to make an appointment next year: on 6 and 7 March, for example, the Germans will play against Belarus and the Austrians against Uruguay for a place in the Davis Cup final tournament Madrid. The Canadians have by their entry into the final this year already safe. It was there that Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime were equal opponents for the Spaniards, but had to defeat with almost identical results Rafael Nadal and Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Vasek Pospisil would also have liked to help, especially since the veteran in the matches in Madrid knew how to convince in singles and doubles. And then there is the often injured Milos Raonic, for whom the conditions in the Caja Magical, in which the Davis Cup Champion will be determined next year, are actually tailor-made. The future is so rosy for Tennis Canada, as well as the team boss Frank Dancevic just as much.

Andreescu with the only single win in a major

"Tennis is really hot in Canada right now," said Dancevic in Madrid. "We are known as a hockey nation. With the results our boys had, starting with Vasek, Milos, and then the boys like Félix and Denis playing at such a high level, that has brought a lot of attention to tennis. "

Shapovalov played in a great way against Nadal in the second set, after he had brought in an important point in the singles for his team in the semi-final against Karen Khachanov. Most recently in Paris-Bercy, the 20-year-old left-hander was able to reach the final of an ATP Masters 1000 tournament for the first time.

And of course Bianca Andreescu, who has already achieved something that none of the four gentlemen mentioned has managed to achieve: a single success in a Grand Slam tournament. "That's great for our sport," continues Dancevic. "It's wonderful to see the young generation playing so well. We have a really strong future ahead of us, and that brings us many children into the tennis clubs. Our association has done a great job over the last decade. "In fact, Andreescu thanked Angelica Kerber at the tournament in Indian Wells for expressing their support for Tennis Canada. Also a peculiarity of Canadian tennis.
