Simona Halep will return to the WTA tour in Montreal

A bang a few days before the start of the French Open was a social media posting by Simona Halep in which the Romanian co-favorite announced that she could not take part in the Grand Slam at Bois de Bolougne due to persistent complaints in the calf. An injury that made it impossible for the 29-year-old to compete in Wimbledon, Halep will only now make her comeback at the WTA 1000 event in Montreal at the beginning of August.

The 29-year-old told the Romanian platform digisport that she was feeling a lot better now: "I'm much better now, I've rested mentally. But I'm also doing well physically, I had no pain during training. Now I hope that I can play tournaments. I plan to be healthy there and play as many games as possible. I miss the field, I miss the competition, I know it will be very difficult in the beginning, but I don't have any Fear."

Difficult phase in the career

The last weeks and months have been a tough time for the Romanian, who has never faced such a serious injury before in her career: "It was the hardest time of my career because it was a pretty serious injury, something like that I've never seen it before. But I took the positives with me and was glad I stayed home. "

The question marks in connection with the return of the tenth in the world rankings are of course big. "With an injury like this, anything is possible. I've never experienced anything like it, a torn hamstring. The doctors have told me that I have recovered, I feel better, but in an official competition it is different," explained Halep, die will compete in Montreal with Aryna Sabalenka and Bianca Andreescu, among others.
