Stan Wawrinka won't play in Madrid and Rome

For Stan Wawrinka things will still not run smoothly in 2021. After the achievements of the three-time Grand Slam winner at the beginning of the season left a few wishes unfulfilled, especially for himself, he had to undergo an operation on his left foot at the end of March - and the Swiss apparently still feel the after-effects.

Because as it became known on Friday, Wawrinka will not compete in the two ATP Masters 1000 events in Madrid and Rome this year. In principle, the intervention "went well", but the world number 21 is needed. a little more time for his comeback.

It is not known whether Wawrinka's appearance at the French Open, which he won in 2015 thanks to a final victory over Novak Djokovic, is not known. The starting shot for the second Grand Slam tournament of the year will be given on May 30th, before that the 36-year-old, like his fellow countryman Roger Federer , could still play in Geneva (May 16-22).

The beneficiary of the cancellations for the events in Madrid and Rome is Albert Ramos-Vinolas. The Spaniard now saves himself having to go through qualification in both tournaments.
