Stan Wawrinka skips the tournament in Miami

Around a year ago, Stan Wawrinka returned to the tour after two operations on his left foot at the Challenger tournament in Marbella. The 37-year-old Swiss is now back in the top 100 in the world - most recently he reached the round of 16 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.

In the tableau of Miami one looks for Wawrinka in vain. The reason: the three-time Grand Slam winner wants to prepare for the clay court season in peace and is therefore not going to the event in Florida. Unlike Dominic Thiem, for example, who returned to the tour in Marbella with Wawrinka.

Wawrinka's entry ranking (position 105) was not enough for a direct place in the Miami main draw, and he then did not name for the qualification. It is not known whether the former world number three applied for a wild card. The Confederate's plan originally included participation in Miami.

At best, Wawrinka will only be on the tour again in April. The Swiss received a wildcard from the organizers for the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril (April 3rd to 9th), but he will not accept it after all. He still needs some time to be ready for the clay court season, said Wawrinka on Tuesday evening.
