A relationship difficult to understand: Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios

Making sense of Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas' relationship isn't easy. If the encounter in Wimbledon - in which Tsitsipas pulled on the opponent Kyrgios several times, while he vehemently demanded the disqualification of his Greek counterpart - still gave the impression that the two were anything but well-disposed towards each other, the duo was seen in start the season preparation side by side in pair skating.

Accordingly, it is also difficult to interpret Tsitsipas' words, which he had ready on Media Day before the United Cup for Kyrgios' short-term and at least as surprising cancellation for the newly created mixed competition: "I see it as none Surprise. I hope he enjoys his holiday," said the Greek. A not insignificant tip in the direction of the Australian, who had already canceled at short notice for the Davis Cup.

Kyrgios speaks of a precautionary measure

Kyrgios himself had his team say that a precautionary measure had to be taken due to an ankle injury in order to have to take part in the Australian Open in the best possible condition. At the same time, the 27-year-old is criticized for taking part in the controversial (and nevertheless highly paid) exhibition fights in the United Arab Emirates. Which the man from Canberra also justified very offensively with the attractive paycheck for his appearance.

In any case, at the Australian Open, Kyrgios, who played more and more in the circle of top title aspirants at Grand Slam level with strong performances in the previous season and reached the final in Wimbledon, dares another attempt after his debut title at Major -Level. With Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and of course serial winner Novak Djokovic, the competition is extremely well-known. However, the focus for the Australian is currently getting fit in time. Depending of course on how serious the injury really is.
