The subject of COVID-19 vaccination not only divides so many societies, it also causes divided opinions in the tennis circus. While Andy Murray is extremely welcome on Twitter, for example, when colleagues on the tour get vaccinated against the coronavirus, which last year interrupted the ATP tour for months, Stefanos Tsitsipas has a completely different opinion in this regard.

Only a few days ago the Greek had declared that he would not be vaccinated against COVID-19 if this was not associated with particular disadvantages in life on the ATP tour, now the world number three explained his motives: "We all have the right to do what we think is right, no one can get a vaccine and force me to get it, if someone wants to protect themselves with the vaccine, let them do it, but I'm under 25 and I don't think so that the vaccine has been sufficiently proven ", the Greek is quoted by the Spanish tennis medium Punto de Break.

Tsitsipas sees alternative paths

The 23-year-old sees herd immunity achieved naturally as something worth striving for: "I also think it's positive that young people pass on the virus because we can build up immunity in this way," said Tsitsipas. "The vaccine has some negative side effects, I know people who have had them. I have no problem getting my point across as I see no reason why anyone my age should be vaccinated."

Rather, the world number three believes that approval only for the older generation would make far more sense: "I think that the vaccine should only be given to seniors. We don't know much about the long-term effects of the vaccine and no one in the ATP circle has asked us to to get vaccinated. " That is why he does not understand the fuss that is being made because he is not vaccinated.

Tsitsipas doesn't understand controversy

With this, the Greek naturally causes controversy, which he does not want to understand: "I didn't say anything strange, everyone has their point of view. If we were all diplomats and couldn't say what we really think, why are we holding press conferences?"

Aside from his controversial statements, the 23-year-old has made positive headlines in Ohio so far. The world number three made his opening match at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati extremely sovereign and is in the round of 16.
