Success in Paris-Bercy as an obstacle to a London victory? Not necessarily!
The double triumph at the end of the year at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy and the ATP Finals in London last worked in 2016.

The reasons for Novak Djokovic's waiver of the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy are probably complex: Perhaps the industry leader did not want to return to the French capital just a few weeks after the sobering defeat to Rafael Nadal in Roland Garros crack open. Perhaps the prospect of playing in front of a relatively large number of Serbian fans in Vienna, along with a certainly decent entry fee, was an incentive to let Bercy slip away. But maybe it was the experiences of the last two years that moved Djokovic to take a two-week break before the ATP Finals this time.
Because in 2018 and 2019 Djokovic was in Paris until the last day. Two years ago he lost to Karen Khachanov in the final, and in 2019 he easily won against Denis Shapovalov .
In both years, however, Novak Djokovic did not succeed in winning the last big title of the year at the final tournament in the London O2 Arena. In fact, the industry leader's last triumph was a few years ago.
Rafael Nadal is still waiting for the first ATP finals triumph
Rafael Nadal, on the other hand, has never won the ATP Finals. Last year, the Spaniard had to admit defeat to Alexander Zverev in London in the first match. The two victories against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev were not enough to advance to the semi-finals. Like last year, Nadal will play in Paris-Bercy. Almost twelve months ago, however, he did not appear in his semi-final match against Shapovalov.
It is important that the top players have participated in at least one indoor event in front of London, explained the long-time tour coach Jan de Witt to sportradio360 this week. It doesn't really matter whether the tournament is very busy in Vienna or in Paris-Bercy. Alexander Zverev has played eight matches in Cologne, taking two tournament victories with him. No surprise for de Witt, rather a confirmation of what the German number one has already shown in New York City.
Andy Murray last two-time champion at the end of the year
Zverev will be there in Paris, while in addition to Novak Djokovic, Denis Shapovalov, Gael Monfils and Kei Nishikori will not be present. In contrast to the world number one, these three gentlemen have already ended their 2020 season. The last player to win Paris-Bercy and the ATP Finals in the same year was Andy Murray in 2016. Before that, Novak Djokovic had succeeded three times in a row.
