That comes as a surprise! Roger Federer had already announced that he would probably also want to start on clay in 2021 - two tournaments were planned. Federer is now playing that too, albeit differently than expected. Because his name was up until recently in Rome (not for a few days) and in Madrid. The tournament in Spain was most likely given to Federer due to the faster conditions. /

Now the message: Federer will serve at the home game in Geneva - and then play the French Open. That is what the maestro himself announced via Twitter.

Federer wrote that he could hardly wait to play in Switzerland again. "And until then there will be training."

The ATP 250 tournament in Geneva will take place from May 16-22; it has only been held as an ATP tournament again since 2015, currently under the direction of Rainer Schüttler, who will now be happy about his prominent draft horse. In 2019, at the last event, Alexander Zverev won the tournament.

Federer will have a week off after his appearance in Geneva: The French Open should actually have started immediately afterwards, but they had recently announced their postponement by a week and will only start on May 30th. This will also have been the reason for Federer's Geneva plans: The 39-year-old still has a week to acclimatise in Paris.
