Six years ago, Maria gave birth to her first child, daughter Charlotte. "In Monterrey, we decided to take a break from the tournament and spend some time at home with the family. Because Charlotte has a little brother or sister," said the 32-year-old.

"We're really excited. It's just a break, I'll be back. I'm still training to get back stronger. I hope everyone is healthy and staying at home."

Maria took a baby break between June 2014 and April 2014. In September 2009 Maria was 64th, but only after her first maternity leave did she achieve her best value. In 2015 she moved into the third round of a Grand Slam (Wimbledon) for the first time, in November 2017 she was 46th higher than ever in the WTA ranking.

At the WTA tournament in Mallorca, she won her first career title in 2018. She hit a top 10 player four times in her career.
