Severin Lüthi has experienced Roger Federer's incredible career like no other and has also been able to help shape it. The 46-year-old has been at the side of the 20-time Grand Slam champion since 2007 and was jointly responsible for the many triumphs that "King Roger" was able to rake in over the years.

Lüthi has also been Switzerland's Davis Cup captain for a long time since 2005 and was therefore also on the bench when Federer and Stan Wawrinka ensured the first and only triumph in the team competition in 2014. In 2014 and 2015, the Bernese shared the coaching post with Stefan Edberg, and since 2016 Ivan Ljubicic has been the second man in the coaching duo.

So it's not surprising that the end of the "Maestro's" career also triggered great emotions in Lüthi, which he tried to put into words in an Instagram post. We don't want to withhold the translation of the message from you:

"It took me some time to figure out what to say... The last few weeks have been emotional but what a JOURNEY it has been. When I look at my iPhone gallery it reminds me of all that we have experienced together: the Grand Slam triumphs, the Davis Cup victory in Lille, the victory in Beijing at the Olympic Games, but also all the special moments we shared off the field: our vacations, the weddings , the birthday parties, the pranks we played on other team members across continents and watching your amazing children grow up. I will treasure those moments forever. It was also admirable to see how you were able to do it To handle so much at once: your tennis, your friends, your business, your family, and most importantly, always with a smile on your face. You will continue with the passion you had for the game of tennis be an inspiration to so many. I still meet people all over the world who you inspire and it brings me great joy. I will always remember spending those years with the kindest, most generous, most positive and fun guy ever. Last but not least, I love you and your Poili family, you have always been there for me ."
