Dennis Novak made it to the top 100 in 2020

The very last memory of Dennis Novak's appearances in the 2020 season will remain an ambivalent one: the 27-year-old plays the former US Open finalist Kevin Anderson in phases in the Wiener Stadthalle and works out several match points. And then loses in the tie-break of the third set. A great opportunity that Novak left behind. Just like at the US Open, when he actually had Alejandro Davidovich Fokina under control in round one. And gave up the match.

On the other hand, Novak greeted us for the first time as a member of the top 100 of the ATP world rankings right at the beginning of the season. One reason for this: the three-sentence success against Guido Pella, then number 25 in the world, at the ATP Cup in Sydney. This was followed by the successful qualification for the Australian Open, where Novak Hubert Hurkacz drove into a fifth set. Then Dennis Novak managed to qualify for the main draw in both Marseille and Dubai, and also won both individual games at the Davis Cup meeting with Uruguay in Premstätten.

Novak strong as a setback

After the Corona break, not much was possible. The only two victories in the main draw of an ATP tournament were in Cologne 1, where the end in the quarter-finals came against Davidovich Fokina. It was a total of 18 matches, Novak was able to win six of them. At the moment, this secures him hibernating in 96th place in the ATP rankings, Austria's number two reached his career high in March 2020 with 85th place.

Over the year Dennis Novak has won 73 percent of his service games, so there is certainly still room for improvement. On the other hand, Novak was able to use 43 percent of his break chances, so as a setback he knew how to convince.

Dennis Novak's year was also okay from a financial point of view: The ATP has prize money of 373,089 US dollars.
