Once again, chief tennis tweeter Oleg S. (handle: @AnnaK_4Ever ) has made an effort to come up with a nice statistic that we're happy to pick up on. How did the best 20 players fare against each other in the 2022 season? So who was the best at overcoming the biggest challenges?

Well: Not surprisingly, Novak Djokovic is clearly in the lead in this ranking, who won 20 matches against the other top 20 players in the past season but only lost five: Against Andrey Rublev in Belgrade, against Carlos Alcaraz in Madrid, against Rafael Nadal in Roland Garros, against Holger Rune in Paris-Bercy, and also against Félix Auger-Aliassime at the Laver Cup, which for some unknown reason finds its way into the ATP statistics.

FAA, Nadal, Alcaraz, Ruud, Fritz, Rune with a positive balance

Speaking of Alcaraz: He has won as many victories against the top competition as Djokovic, but lost nine games in this segment. Only five other players have a positive record: Félix Auger-Aliassime (17:14), Casper Ruud (14:8, but with a 0:6 record against Alcaraz, Nadal and Djokovic), Rafael Nadal (13:6), Taylor Fritz (13:8) and Holger Rune (11:9).

Things are looking really bad for Cameron Norrie and Jannik Sinner: Norrie holds the “record” for most defeats against top 20 professionals in 2022, namely 16, but has won eight matches. Sinner, on the other hand, had to congratulate his opponent in twelve games. And managed only four victories against this competition: against Carlos Alcaraz in Wimbledon and Umag, against Andrey Rublev in Monte Carlo and against Pablo Carreno Busta in Miami.
