There is a question mark behind Dominic Thiem's start at Wimbledon

You are out of luck and then there is also bad luck. Hardly a sentence should better summarize the current mood at Dominic Thiem. After a more than messed up season and a first round at the French Open in Paris, which was proclaimed the season highlight, the 27-year-old now also suffered a wrist injury on Mallorca.

In his second round encounter against Adrian Mannarino, Thiem felt a "crack" in his wrist at a score of 5: 2 from his point of view with a forehand strike, afterwards the reigning US Open champion had to give up despite a longer treatment break. "Really painful" is the treatment at the injured area, Thiem said on the court.

Thiem plays in Hamburg and Gstaad

How it will go on for the fifth in the world is currently still open. "At the moment you can only guess. He sustained a wrist injury, a kind of twist," said physio Alex Stober to the APA. An MRI examination in the hospital will provide more information. "You don't know anything else until later," said the German, who was very concerned: "Cracking is never a good sign. Let's hope it was just a twist in the wrist, with the carpal bone maybe a slight injury to the capsule."

The Austrian's participation in the lawn classic in Wimbledon, which begins on June 28, is currently still in the stars. Regardless of this, Thiem will return to sand again after the lawn season. After the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg (June 12th to 18th), the 27-year-old will also play at the 250cc event in Gstaad (June 19th to 25th). A start at the home tournament in Kitzbühel (June 26th to 31st) also seems possible - but only if the wrist plays along.
