It was the big surprise on Saturday - and the big question remained unanswered: Why was there a separation between Dominic Thiem and Thomas Muster, the large-scale collaboration between Austria's current number 1 and the former world number 1? /

Thiem had confirmed the separation after his victory over Taylor Fritz, but wanted to keep things relatively small. It just didn't fit - and even before you started together, you said that you wanted to try it together, but if it didn't, it would be ended, says Thiem. The pressure from the box on the part of Muster was too great, it was said; in addition, according to Thiem, two different characters met. There was no bad blood, however. You get along great.

Pattern: "There are houses with beautiful facades, but you rarely know who lives inside"

Now Thomas Muster has also commented on the separation. In an interview with Eurosport , he said about Thiem: "A great boy who is very capable of learning, but of course also has his shortcomings, which he has to fix if he wants to be at the top." In many areas, Thiem has already improved, but in many areas he sees a need to catch up, says Muster. Specifically: "In the technical area, in the physical area, but above all in the mental area."

How surprising the separation for patterns came after such a short time, he also let out. "I've seen myself fully in this role for the next two years."

However, Muster did not want to comment on the details of why Thiem decided to end the collaboration. "I know it, but I don't want to comment on it here," said the 52-year-old. "Put simply: there are houses with beautiful, indeed with wonderful facades, but you very rarely know who lives inside."
