Tommy Haas' soliloquies have not disappeared from the repertoire of the long-standing German number one, even after retiring from the ATP tour. And the well-groomed, though controlled racket throw should not be missing on the first day of the exhibition fight tournament in Berlin - Haas used it at the score of 0: 3 in the match tie-break against Jannik Sinner.

However, it was no longer enough for a sustainable turn: The 18-year-old South Tyrolean never let Haas get any closer than one point, finally winning 6: 4, 3: 6 and 10: 8. Sinner will play Dominic Thiem in the semifinals on Tuesday. Matteo Berrettini and Roberto Bautista-Agut, who defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in the champions tiebreak in the first game at Steffi Graf Stadium, contest the second match of the final round.

For women, Julia Görges had to give up injured in her match against Anastasija Sevastova in the middle of the second set after she bent her right foot. After the treatment by the physiotherapist, Görges tried to continue playing, but left it after a few points. Sevastova will play against Elina Svitolina on Tuesday.
