Too tough for Sinner: Medvedev triumphs in Miami

He will continue to be in impressive form in 2023: Daniil Medvedev wins the Masters in Miami 7: 5, 6: 3 in the final against a tired Jannik Sinner and is therefore full of self-confidence on the European clay court tour, which he does not do at all like.

It wasn't the grand finale I had hoped for. Both players had apparently left too much strength in the previous rounds: Daniil Medvedev won the final of the Masters tournament in Miami against Jannik Sinner in one hour and 34 minutes with 7: 5 and 6: 3. This marks Medvedev's 19th tournament win of his career, his fourth this season and his fifth Masters title overall.

Sinner was not in full possession of his strength throughout the entire game and was only very rarely able to successfully complete the long baseline duels. A specific injury could not be seen in the South Tyrolean, his body seemed much more exhausted from the previous rounds. Especially from his semi-final triumph against Carlos Alcaraz. In the final, unfortunately, there were still a few empty seats in the stadium.

Medvedev didn't show his best tennis in the final either, but was always a bit better in the decisive situations. And when Sinner sniffed a break, the Russian could also rely on his serve. Therefore, the result was clearer than expected and clearer than the numbers indicate. In the second set you never had the feeling that something could go wrong for the Russian - and so Medvedev ended the tournament humorlessly with a service winner - the first Masters victory, which he is allowed to experience as a father, by the way. In October he became the father of a daughter.
