While a maximum of 5,000 fans per court may be present at the French Open, which begins on Sunday, towards the end of the tournament, there is already news from the USA about full spectator seats: At the events in Cincinnati and Winston-Salem, the capacity of the grandstands will be 100 percent again lie.

"In coordination with the instructions of the local authorities, we are happy to welcome the fans back to the Western & Southern Open. The fans bring so much energy and excitement to our event. We missed them very much last year. We are happy looking forward to returning to Cincinnati and welcoming our fans to this year's tournament, "said Chief Operating Officer Katie Haas.

Will the US Open follow suit?

Last year, the combined event for women and men in the run-up to the US Open took place behind closed doors in New York, twelve months later it will be the first full house tennis tournament in Cincinnati from August 14th since the beginning of the Corona pandemic.

In the following week, the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem, which was canceled in the previous year, will follow suit immediately. "We can't wait to get started on August 21st," said Tournament Director Jeff Ryan. It is still questionable whether the US Open will also take place in front of full spectators.
