Alexander Zverev just wants to start at the US Open in top shape

Alexander Zverev will only take part in the US Open in New York if he is in top shape. "I want to win every tournament I play. That's my character. I don't go to events just to take part," said the Olympic champion on Eurosport.de. Whether he makes his comeback or not "is not due to the size of the event, but to my well-being on the pitch. That's the most important thing for me."

Zverev is currently in recovery training after his serious injury from the French Open and the subsequent operation on his ankle. The US Open takes place from August 29th to September 11th.

No exact comeback date known

"The healing process is going very positively. I'm making important progress every day and I'm looking forward to the next tasks that will bring me closer and closer to the tennis court," said Zverev: "An exact time for a comeback has not yet been determined, but I'm working on everyone Remember that it will happen as soon as possible."

It is important for the 25-year-old world number two to listen to his body "very carefully" and to know when he has reached his limits. "I'm used to getting the maximum out of myself almost every day, whether in training or a match. Exceeding it could now be counterproductive," he said.
