Andy Murray should have fond memories of the US Open: After all, the Scot won his first Grand Slam title in New York in 2012. Eight years later, the 33-year-old will still serve in the Big Apple - and contrary to what was originally assumed, he does not need a wildcard from the organizer.

After the cancellation of the Australian Alexei Popyrin, the world rankings are 129. right in the main field of the traditionally last major event of the year. The wild card that was originally intended for him is now given to US professional Mitchell Krueger.

Murray had already confirmed his appearance in New York a few weeks ago, unlike some of his fellow players . Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the US Open will be held in New York from August 31 to September 13
