Oscar Otte is a man for tight matches on big occasions. The man from Cologne already proved that this year at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon, when he first bit his way through the qualification and then delivered a tough fight to the French Arthur Rinderknech over two tournament days in the first round, which in the end ended with a champions tiebreak and 13:12 in the fifth set for the German. In the second round, Andy Murray played five rounds - but this time without a happy ending for the 28-year-old.
As currently world number 144. If Otte has to fight his way through the qualification at the fourth and last major event of the year, he would like to land in the main field and only then bring a pleasantly high transfer of prize money to a dry sheet. The two-time Challenger winner has already taken the first step - and again with an impressive fighting performance. Otte prevailed after 2:33 hours of play against the Argentine Renzo Olivo (ATP 214) with 6: 7 (3), 6: 0, 7: 6 (4).
Second round of the paper form lighter
The North Rhine-Westphalian survived two tricky points in the game with flying colors: at 4-5 in the third set he had to fend off a match point, at 5-3 in the tie-break his body went on strike and Otte had to get into the corner at the back of the place. The performance of the German is to be rated even higher. In the next round there is 23 lined up in the qualification against the Frenchman Constant Lestienne (ATP 248), who in turn was able to defeat the Italian Andrea Pellegrino (ATP 245) in three sets.
From a German point of view, Peter Gojowczyk, Cedric-Marcel Stebe, Maximilian Marterer and Tobias Kamke are still in action for the men today (local time).
