The joy and sorrow of the German qualifiers at the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the year in New York: Peter Gojowczyk, who was ranked 20 in the preliminary round for the US Open, was unable to beat him after a 2:19 hour battle Popular Czech Lukas Rosol prevailed with 4: 6, 7: 6 (4) and 7: 5.

Tobias Kamke, however, did not fare quite as well. The 35-year-old from Hamburg suffered a 6: 3, -6: 7 (2), - 2: 6 defeat in his opening game against the 32nd Ukrainian Illya Marchenko. With a playing time of 2:19 hours, this match was exactly the same length as that of the victorious Munich player.

Gojowczyk already knows his opponent in the second round of qualification: The 32-year-old meets the Dutch veteran Robin Haase, who in turn took the Croatian Borna Gojo out of the race in three sets.
