David Goffin shouldn't really fall into the category of players that Dominic Thiem described before his semi-final in Roland Garros against Novak Djokovic as follows: namely, professionals who don't dare to win at the Grand Slam tournaments against the big Drie, defeat to accept. Well, Goffin had won only once against Federer at the US Open 2019 before the round of 16 with Federer, but at least in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in London in autumn 2017.
There was no thought in that. Federer made it 6-2, 6-2 and 6-0 after 79 minutes into the final eight, where he meets either Grigor Dimitrov or Alex de Minaur on Tuesday.

Federer is happy about Osaka
Federer accomplished the trick of winning the last nine games of the match - after Goffin had made the rebreak to 2: 3 in the second round. The victory was sealed by a backhand pass by the maestro, which the Belgian could only look after.
He would have felt better and better after a difficult start, even if David Goffin hadn't had his best day. When asked about the scenes yesterday evening when Naomi Osaka consoled her opponent Cori Gauff, Federer said that he first had to turn the sound on his TV set. But he was very happy that there was such a great camaraderie in the tennis circus.
