The world number 24. had an exciting third round match against Jannik Sinner, in doubles there was actually a round of 16 with Jack Sock against Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Sonego. But Isner gave w / o.

The reason: He rushed home in the direction of Dallas, his wife Madison was expecting their third child there.

Baby approaching - Isner: "That's my job now"

Isner received the call just 20 minutes before the double match. "I have to go home to my family, that's my job now. Much more important than tennis," he said. Coach David Macpherson told ATP.com: "He wasn't going to miss you, his decision was clear."

Why did Isner compete in Indian Wells in the first place? The original due date is still some time away - but the baby would now come a few weeks earlier than planned, Macpherson said.

Isner is already the father of two children: Hunter Grace Isner was born in 2018, John Hobbs Isner in 2019.
