"Do you remember what I said after the Australian Open final?" Daniil Medvedev wrote on social media on Sunday evening. What is meant is the story of childhood dreams that the Russian had raised after his final defeat against Rafael Nadal. A story of dreams, but also a story of disappointment.
And a story that Medvedev resorted to again on Sunday for a given reason. "Today I want to speak on behalf of all children in the world. They all have dreams, their lives are just beginning, they still have so many beautiful experiences ahead of them: first friends, first great feelings," wrote Medvedev on Twitter. "Everything you feel and see is the first time in your life. That's why I want to pray for peace in the world, for peace between countries."
Rublev and Medvedev appeal for peace
Already during the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, the Russian, who lost out in the semifinals against Rafael Nadal, clearly spoke out in favor of peace - and thus indirectly condemned his home country's actions in the Ukraine war. Compatriot Andrey Rublev - himself on duty in Dubai - had repeatedly appealed for peace during his appearances.
Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev continued in his message: "Children are born with an inner trust in the world, they believe so much in everything: in people, in love, in security and justice, in their chances in life. Let's be together and show them that that's true, because every child shouldn't stop dreaming," said the 25-year-old, who will be number one in the world for the first time from Monday. The post is accidentally tagged with the hashtag "#kiddontstopdreaming - "Kid, don't stop dreaming."
