In Germany, an ATP Masters 1000 tournament could take place on grass in the distant future. This was indicated by ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi in an interview with "Spox".

There is currently no ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Germany. If ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi has his way, that could change in the future. As the Italian promised in a "Spox" interview , the most populous country in the European Union certainly has opportunities to host a 1000 tournament on grass.

"As far as the future is concerned: Germany, together with Great Britain, would certainly be one of the top candidates if the tour wants to create a 1000er event on grass in the future," says Gaudenzi, who apparently has a lot to gain from this idea: " Personally speaking, I like the idea and I think it could make a lot of sense for the calendar as a whole."

However, the ATP boss dampened expectations: "We will discuss this with our members, but it is still a bit too early to speculate further." Two tournaments are currently taking place in Germany during the grass season with events in Stuttgart (250) and Halle/Westphalia (500) on the men's side.

Germany is an "important market"

Most recently, a tournament of the second highest category took place in Germany in 2008 at Hamburg's Rothenbaum. "Historically, Germany has always been a very important market for our sport. (...) We are proud of the history of the tour in Germany and we hope that all existing events will continue to be as successful," said Gaudenzi.

The 48-year-old also commented on the investigations into the Alexander Zverev case and announced that ATP is now working with an independent third party. There is currently nothing new to report: "I cannot comment on the details of the investigation as of now, but I can say that we will provide more information when the investigation is complete."
