The traditional tournament in Great Britain is to receive £ 114 million (around 130 million euros) thanks to insurance against pandemics - according to several British media .

The All England Club had taken out insurance against a tournament failure due to a pandemic after the SARS outbreak in 2003. This could at least now make up for part of the lost revenue of around £ 250m.

"Of course we are happy to have the insurance and it also helps," said outgoing tournament director Richard Lewis. "But it doesn't solve all the problems. The details and the exact number will probably not be known for months." In 2018, Wimbledon reportedly had annual sales of £ 255m.

Few sporting events have taken out insurance against pandemics and the like. Reason: the high price. Insurance boss for an ATP tournament cost between 200,000 and 700,000 euros , Stuttgart boss Edwin Weindorfer recently revealed.

Wimbledon allegedly paid an annual sum of 1.8 million euros, around 31 million euros in the past 17 years.
