She had already proven ten years ago that Ashleigh Barty can play on grass: in 2011 she won the junior women’s tournament, now she has the chance to win the women's title. /

Barty won the semi-finals against Angelique Kerber and showed a great performance. The world number one got off to a dream start and quickly took a 3-0 lead, although she got help from Kerber at the break - she hit the ball exactly in Barty's run, which she passed. Kerber stayed on afterwards, but the sentence still went away.

In the second round, Kerber was on the trigger, she dictated the points now, Barty relied too much on the counterattack and also often twisted her slice. Kerber finally led 5: 2, had the chance to equalize the set at 5: 3, but Barty found her offensive side again. She made eleven points in a row to make it 5: 5. In the tie-break she rushed off to 6-0, Kerber fought his way again, and in the end a backhand landed in the net.

Barty now meets the winner of the game between Karolina Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka ( here in the live ticker).

Kerber returns in the top 20

"It was close to one of the best tennis matches I could play," said Barty after the match. "To contest the final here at Wimbledon will be the best experience ever." The 25-year-old won her first and only Grand Slam title at the French Open in Paris in 2019.

Kerber, winner of Wimbledon 2018, can still be satisfied with her performance. After a mixed year with hardcore quarantine in Melbourne, she turned it up again in Bad Homburg and won the title. At Wimbledon, she played a great match against Sara Sorribes Tormo in round 2, most recently giving Cori Gauff and Karolina Muchova few chances.

Kerber will return to the top 20 in the world rankings thanks to her semi-finals.
