At the first match point, the serve had touched the net, Matteo Berrettini had to put his cheering arms down again, after a serve and one of his famous forehand, then he had made it. It was 6: 3, 5: 7, 7: 5 and 6: 3 at the end of the game between the two friends. Berrettini is in the semifinals of a major tournament for the second time after the US Open 2019.
At the end of the day, Berrettini had 33 winners with 45 mistakes without need, while Zverev-conqueror Auger-Aliassime was 24:41. The Canadian only used 3 of his 12 break chances - in the end too few.
Berrettini will meet Federer conqueror Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals on Friday. Defending champions Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov will contest the other semifinals.
