Strawberries with cream are part of the traditional menu when visiting Wimbledon, next to the famous Pimm's. However, since the Wimbledon 2020 tournament will be canceled , the All England Club has decided to give the planned strawberries to someone else.

The National Health Service is said to benefit from 200 bowls a day during the corona pandemic, also as a small gesture for the service that would have taken place during the Wimbledon tournament. "After the championships were canceled, we focused very much on what we can do for our local community that was hit by the corona crisis," said Richard Lewis, head of the All England Club. 26,000 strawberries that had been scheduled for the Wimbledon tournament 2020 would be cut and portioned by parts of the AELTC staff.

Wimbledon donates to a good cause

Wimbledon partners "Food and Drink" and "City Harvest" would also do their part "to be a small part of helping our community in times of crisis."

Thank you very much to the AELTC, said Amerjit Chohan, CEO of St George's Hospital Charity, "It was a gracious, surprising gesture for our NHS staff who work tirelessly during the crisis."

Wimbledon and his partners had already donated "real" food to people in need, more than 5,000 meals since late May. Donations from the Wimbledon Foundation and partner "City Harvest" were also collected to support organizations with which the All England Club had a long working relationship.
