Top Austrian tennis now has its new center. With the opening of the Academy of the Austrian Tennis Committee (ATC), the team around Wolfgang Thiem presented a training center that is supposed to offer the players the best conditions. With the support of some investors, over 250,000 euros are said to have been invested in the expansion of an existing tennis hall.

With three Rebound Ace hard courts, which were laid by the renowned court builder Andreas Kemmerer - who is also responsible for relocating the court in the Wiener Stadthalle - and a dedicated fitness room, the Austrian tennis aces should leave nothing to be desired . "The next generation of Austrian juniors can train on this court without the usual signs of wear and tear on a hard court," Kemmerer told tennisnet.com.

Dominic Thiem also took the similarity to the court in the Wiener Stadthalle as an opportunity to have a training session in Traiskirchen on Thursday with the three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. The US Open winner did not decide on his own seat - neatly branded with his own logo - but on the middle of the three courts, which should come very close to the conditions in Vienna in terms of speed.

New home for Dominic Thiem

This means that the move of the Austrian number one from Südstadt to Traiskirchen is a done deal: "I trained in Südstadt for 15 years. That's enough for a couple of lives, because it's not that nice there either," Thiem told APA . For ten weeks a year, this will now be the home base of the 27-year-old, and in 2021 the three clay courts will also be followed by an outdoor hard court. “The hall looks really good. It's a very cool thing that we have perfect training conditions, "said the world number three, extremely satisfied with the conditions.

Also next to the spearhead of Austrian tennis. In addition to Dominic Thiem, the country's elite are present in Traiskirchen. With Dennis Novak, Lucas Miedler, Jurij Rodionov, Sebastian Ofner and Alex Erler, Academy Director Wolfgang Thiem has the best six tennis players in Austria under his wing.
