Hardly any ranking list illustrates so well how much the sport of tennis has developed. It is the eternal ranking list of the players with the most prize money, the comparison of those men who were able to earn the most income from the various tournaments of the ATP Tour in their (still) active careers.

If you take a look at the top ten men, with the exception of Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, these are only players who have shaped the sport of tennis in recent years or who continue to shape it. At the top of the comparison are, befittingly, Novak Djokovic (147 million US dollars in prize money), Roger Federer (129 million US dollars) and Rafael Nadal (123 million US dollars).

Thiem in the top 10 for the first time

However, there is already a huge gap to fourth place, the Scot Andy Murray ranks fourth with currently 61 million US dollars earned. From Pete Sampras to Stan Wawrinka - both multiple Grand Slam winners - the list leads to seventh-placed David Ferrer - the best-placed man without a major title. Another player who ended his active career without such a "coronation" can also be found in this ranking: The Czech Tomas Berdych is in ninth place, just behind Andre Agassi.

And in tenth place? There is a new addition to the top ten in this ranking. Dominic Thiem ousted Marin Cilic from the "ejection seat" within the top 10 with the prize money he won from the Australian Swing of the ATP Tour and entered this elite group for the first time with a good $ 28.5 million in prize money. Of course, the Austrian's US Open victory, in which Thiem was able to collect three million US dollars at once , played a decisive role .
