The French sports newspaper L´Équipe has been choosing its Champions of Champions since 1980. In four categories: The international ratings for women (since 2012) and men as well as the respective national results. And you can definitely say that the pros on the ATP and WTA tour did very well in tennis-crazy France.
Andre Agassi was the first tennis winner in 1999, Roger Federer won the award three times in a row from 2006. Rafael Nadal won the title four times, most recently last year when the Spanish matador finished first in the world rankings. In 2020 this position was denied to him, Novak Djokovic hibernates as the industry leader. The fact that Nadal finished second in the 2020 vote as the best tennis player may be related to the 13th title of the left-hander in Roland Garros.
The victory in the men went to Lewis Hamilton, who for a few days now has been allowed to wear the title of "Sir" in his home country Great Britain. Hamilton had set Michael Schumacher's record with his seventh world title this year. In the women's category, the Norwegian biathlete Marte Olsbu Roeiseland won the award.
