There had been a lot of evidence that Ashleigh Barty would have a smooth victory in the final. After winning the first set, the 2019 French Open winner also started with a break in round two. Dayana Yastremska, who has been coached by Sascha Bajin since the end of last season, won three games in a row and kept the match open until 5: 5. However, the last eight games went to the favorite, who had failed the previous week in Brisbane in her first appearance against Jennifer Brady.

Yastremska had benefited from Angelique Kerber's task on the way to the final in round two and then defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Barty, in turn, stopped Danielle Collins' run in the semi-final. The industry leader against Lesia Tsurenko will start in Melbourne. Yastremska is number 23 in the first major of the year. And plays in round one against the Slovenian qualifier Kaja Juvan.
