WTA: Anett Kontaveit still not fit after corona disease

Anett Kontaveit, currently number two in the WTA world rankings, will not be in Eastbourne next week. The 26-year-old Estonian is still suffering from the after-effects of a corona disease. She still doesn't feel good on the court and doesn't want to take any risks, says Kontaveit. She wants to come back when she is back at 100 percent of her capacity.
Will that be the case at Wimbledon? Anett Kontaveit's non-appearance would have little or no impact on the world rankings. Because the WTA, like the ATP, decided not to award any points in Wimbledon because of the exclusion of the Russian and Belarusian players. And: Kontaveit does not lose any points from the rating. Last year she failed in round one at Marketa Vondrousova.
The recent past has not gone according to plan for Kontaveit, regardless of the breakup with coach Dmitry Tursunov. Probably due to the fact that the corona disease was not completely overcome. At the French Open she lost her first match against Ajla Tomljanovic as well as before that in Rome against Petra Martic.
