Simona Halep had to cancel her participation in the Bad Homburg Open presented by Engel & Völkers due to an injury to her left calf. The world number three from Romania had already trained on the facility in the historic spa park in the past few days.

“It turned out that my calf is unfortunately not yet resilient enough to start a tournament. I am very disappointed and sad about not being able to take part in the Bad Homburg Open. It's really beautiful here, the conditions are excellent and I really enjoyed the time, but I have to listen to my body, ”said the two-time Grand Slam winner on Saturday afternoon - a few hours before the draw.

The injury had already forced Halep to give up prematurely at the clay court tournament in Rome in mid-May. As a result, the 29-year-old had to do without a start at the French Open in Paris, where she won the title in 2018.

"We wish Simona all the best and a speedy recovery with a view to the upcoming Wimbledon tournament," said tournament director Dr. Alyosha throne.
