Andreescu, who in addition to the US Open also won the traditional major events in Indian Wells and Toronto, is the first tennis athlete ever to receive the “Lou Marsh Award” in Canada, which is traditionally more inclined to winter sports.

Andreescu followed baseball player Joey Votto (2017) and freestyle skier Mikael Kingsbury (2018). Record winner is ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky with four awards.

The congratulations were not long in coming. And start in Canada at the top in politics with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Billy Jean King did not take long to ask and sent her congratulations to the north. Especially since Andreescu appropriately got her first major title at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Of course, Tennis Canada is also particularly proud of the 19-year-old, who started 2019 far outside the top 100 players in the world. And going into the coming year as number five.
