2:07 hours for three sets - that suggests that in the Brisbane final there were two power players facing each other who were rather short on their rallies. And in the end it was Karolina Pliskova who won the first major title of the year. The Czech defeated Madison Keys from the USA 6: 4, 4: 6 and 7: 5 in the first clash and is one of the big favorites in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, which started in eight days in Melbourne with the main field will start.

Pliskova and Keys had to go the full distance in the semifinals, the Czech had fended off a match ball from Naomi Osaka. Keys had won against Pliskova's compatriot Petra Kvitova. And as against Kvitova, Keys managed to turn a set and break gap in the endgame: After the 2: 3 in the second round, the American won four of the five following games. Keys also made up for a gap in the third set, but in the end Pliskova prevailed with her new coach due Olga Savchuk and Dani Vallverdu.
