Witthöft wrote on Instagram that she first wanted to thank everyone for the loving news about her comeback. But: "It is damn hard to tell you that I have to withdraw from the tournament in Altenkirchen next week due to an injury," the 25-year-old continued. "It looks like I didn't listen to my body as well as I should have." Therefore, she could not give any further information about what the near future looks like.

Witthöft had last played on the tour at the Australian Open 2019 and since then has only spoken loosely about comeback thoughts. In a conversation with SPIEGEL , she also talked about the hardships on the tour and complained about the negative energy that you get from other players.

Witthöft was number 48 in the world rankings at the beginning of 2018, shortly before that she had won her first (and so far only) WTA tournament in Luxembourg.
