WTA Charleston: Collins also sweeps over Badosa

Danielle Collins traveled to Charleston with a lot of self-confidenceafter her 1000 title from Miami and the greatest success of her soon-to-be-ending career. At the start, the American Paula Badosa from Spain faced off against Simona Halep's comeback in the first round in three sets at the tournament in Florida.

From the start, Collins dominated on the green clay by taking the balls early again and shifting her position to the baseline as best as possible. The 30-year-old only allowed herself one blemish in the first round when she let her opponent score once on her own serve.

In the second round, the unseeded Collins will face No. 2 seed Ons Jabeur from Tunisia in the next blockbuster, who starts the tournament with a bye.

Stephens wins easily, Kenin loses

Two of Collins' Grand Slam-decorated compatriots had a mixed result. While Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open winner, swept Poland's Magdalena Frech 6-0, 6-2, the former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin lost to her compatriot Taylor Townsend 3-6, 3-6 . Maria Sakkari, seeded number 3, also managed her opening hurdle after a bye. So the world rankings are 7th. as the first player in the round of 16.
