WTA Charleston: Veronika Kudermetova wins premiere title

In a one-sided final on Sunday evening European time, the Russian won against the Montenegrin Danka Kovinic 6: 4 and 6: 2. It was the end of a strong run for the 23-year-old who hadn't made a single sentence on the way to her first title on the WTA tour.

This also sets a new career high in the world rankings for Kudermetova at the beginning of the coming week. As of Monday, the lady from Russia will be ranked 29th in the WTA charts.

Kudermetova in fifth place in the race

The 2021 season has been an extremely successful one for Veronika Kudermetova so far. At the start of the year, the 23-year-old played her way into the final of the WTA event in Dubai. At the Australian Open, Kudermetova reached round three - in which she failed to Simona Halep.

With the title in Charleston, where the world number one Ash Barty competed, is the world number 38. also in a very promising position in the WTA race. Kudermetova is currently in fifth place.
