Doha is and will remain a good place for Petra Kvitova. In 2018, the two-time Wimbledon winner won the tournament here, and in 2020 Kvitova made it to the final. Where she lost straight to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. The Czech turned the tables against Garbine Muguruza. And won her 28th tournament victory on the WTA Tour with a 6: 2 and 6: 1.

Muguruza went well into the final: her opponent in the semi-final, Victoria Azarenka, could not compete due to back problems. Kvitova, on the other hand, had to assert herself against the American Jessica Pegula in difficult external conditions. In the final, on the other hand, almost everything was easy for Kvitova - after only 63 minutes of play, she was congratulated on the title.

Both players will now go straight to the WTA Tour 1000 event in Dubai. There Kvitova has a bye as number four in round one, Muguruza has to play against a qualifier. And could meet Iga Swiatek, the 2020 French Open winner, in round three.
