WTA Finals Shenzhen: Ashleigh Barty follows Elina Svitolina into the final
Ashleigh Barty plays against Elina Svitolina on Sunday for the last major single title of the year. The world ranking first defeated Karolina Pliskova at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen in three sets.

Defending champion Elina Svitolina of Ukraine and Australian world number one Ashleigh Barty will contest the final of the WTA season finale in Shenzhen, China. Svitolina profited in the semi-final against Belinda Bencic from Switzerland in a 5: 7, 6: 3, 4: 1 lead from the injury-related task of her opponent. French Open winner Barty prevailed in the second semi-final against second-placed Czech Karolina Pliskova with 4: 6, 6: 2, 6: 3.
For Barty, who won her first Grand Slam victory at the French Open this year, it will be the sixth final in 2019.
Svitolina has the chance in the final, as the first player since the US-American Serena Williams (2012, 2013, 2014) to repeat their victory of the previous year. WTA final debutant Bencic missed it, as after Martina Hingis (2000 last) only second Swiss to draw in the final of the season finale tournament.
