The end of the first semi-finals at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen should not surprise anyone: even before the final ball was played according to the rule book, a player went to the bank of her opponent to prematurely congratulate. This time just Belinda Bencic, who took their premature farewell at the score of 7: 5, 3: 6 and 1: 4 after just under two hours of playing time. The back, on which the Swiss already had to be treated at the end of the first sentence, made too much trouble.

Tasks run like a thread through this year's final tournament: Bianca Andreescu, for example, could not finish her match against Karolina Pliskova, nor did Kiki Bertens finish her match against Bencic. Naomi Osaka, in turn, could not even compete for their second group match.

Elina Svitolina, undefeated in Shenzhen, does not have to worry about that. She seems to be in similar shape to the season finale as it was a year ago. In the final, the defending champion meets the winner of the match between Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova.
