WTA Finals: Title holder Elina Svitolina starts with victory

Especially the tiebreak in the first set was dramatic: Six set balls defended Pliskova from some extremely brave, the number seven sat then for the Ukrainian for the set management.

In the second round of the world rankings Eighth then the crucial break to 4: 3, two chances to 5: 5 -satch then fended off them and won for the fourth time in the fourth comparison with Pliskova.

"I've never played such a long tiebreak before, I did it point by point and did not even think we'd play one," Svitolina revealed afterwards.

In the second match of the purple group Simona Halep meets Bianca Andreescu.

Naomi Osaka beat Petra Kvitova on Sunday and won Ashleigh Barty against Belinda Bencic.
