Angelique Kerber was eliminated in Indian Wells

Angelique Kerber's next big run at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Indian Wells didn't turn out to be anything: Kerber, who only failed to Bianca Andreescu in the final of the last edition of the desert classic in 2019, lost on Thursday evening ( Local time) against the increasingly stronger Spaniard Paula Badosa with 4: 6 and 5: 7. Badosa now meets Ons Jabeur in the semifinals, who defeated Anett Kontaveit 7: 5 and 6: 3.

An important victory for Jabeur in two ways: On the one hand with regard to the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, where the Tunisian now has a good chance of participating for the first time. In addition, with the win against Kontaveit, it is clear that Jabeur will be among the ten best players in the WTA world rankings on Monday. Also a first.

Kerber with a small comeback in the second movement

Badosa, in turn, defeated Kerber, after Barbora Krejcikova and Cori Gauff, the third big caliber in Indian Wells. The first set was evenly balanced up to 4: 4, then Kerber made a double mistake at 30, Badosa took the chance to win the set. In the second half everything looked like a smooth affair for the slight outsider, Badosa led 5: 2. Kerber once again showed her great comeback qualities, but had to admit defeat with 5; 7.

The second semi-final for women in Indian Wells also features a rather surprising line-up: There Victoria Azarenka meets the 2017 French Open winner, Jelena Ostapenko.
