Kiki Bertens then canceled her appearance in Dubai - and delegated the task of welcoming Kim Clijsters back on the WTA tour to Garbine Mugurza . With her recent victory in St.Petersburg, the Dutch woman has not only made a premiere - namely defending her title there. With the 470 points achieved, Bertens jumped into the top eight of the annual ranking, the Porsche Race to Shenzhen - namely in sixth place.

Elena Rybakina, who lost 1-6 and 3: 6 to Bertens in the St. Petersburg final, was now fourth as a starting place at the WTA final in Shenzhen.

This race is naturally led by Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin - who is also involved in Dubai this week. Muguruza is second in the race and just missed her third major title in Melbourne. Ashleigh Barty , who still has to take a break this week, follows in third place. Ekaterina Alexandrova, who had failed in the semi-finals in St. Petersburg, is a second surprise woman on the top floor of the annual ranking alongside Rybakina.

From a German perspective, there is a lot of room for improvement at the moment: Angelique Kerber is in position 25 in the early phase of the season, Julia Görges eight ranks behind.
