Gauff won the first time in Austria on the well-filled center court with 6: 7 (10), 6: 2 and 6: 2 against the Russian Liudmila Samsonova. The teenage girl even had to fight tears in the first set, but ultimately played safely in the last round of the qualification.

The American, who had caused a sensation at Wimbledon with a win against Venus Williams, meets the German Tamara Korpatsch. The duel will take place again on Center Court (third match after 10:00 a.m.CET).

Three Austrians fail in the first qualifying round

Unlike for Gauff, the first day of the tournament was anything but pleasant for the Austrians. Emily Meyer, Melanie Klaffner and Mira Antonitsch all missed the jump to the qualification final. From a domestic point of view, Barbara Haas and Julia Grabher are only two hope-holders. However, both are already in the main field due to wildcards.

With Julia Grabher, one of the two Austrians will attack on the first day of the main competition. The 23-year-old will not be dealing with Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova on Monday before 15:00 CET. Andrea Petkovic will also be in action on Monday - following Julia Grabher's game, the German will meet the Swiss Jil Teichmann.
